Drainage in Market Harborough raises one issue that connects directly to the town’s boundary rules, and several that do not.
The connected one is surface water at the front. Where a drive is being resurfaced or widened, the water has to go somewhere, and the usual answer, draining it to a soft area within your own boundary, can run straight into the Article 4 controls in Little Bowden if it involves altering the front boundary to do it. Getting the drainage design and the boundary question answered together, rather than sequentially, saves a second application.
The unconnected ones are the familiar ones. Where a public sewer runs under an extension footprint, building over or close to it needs consent granted before the concrete goes in, and since 2011 a great many runs householders assumed were their own have belonged to the water company. It is a routine application and a serious problem to be caught without.
Soakaways need ground that will actually accept water at a useful rate, which is a percolation test rather than an assumption. A soakaway that fills in October and stays full until spring takes the new patio with it.
Our drainage work page covers surveys, repairs and new connections.
