Landscaping in Nuneaton has a cost driver that most towns do not share: on parts of this town, digging is genuinely hard work.
This was a quarrying town. Where rock sits close to the surface, the assumptions behind a normal garden price stop applying. A post hole that takes ten minutes elsewhere can take an hour. A footing for a garden wall may need breaking out rather than digging. A pond, a sunken terrace or anything requiring depth becomes a different job with different plant. None of that makes the work impossible and none of it is a reason to accept a bad garden, but it does mean a price given without putting a spade in the ground is a guess, and we would rather dig a trial hole at the quotation stage than argue about a variation later.
Spoil behaves differently too. Broken rock bulks up and will not go back into the hole it came from, so muck away volumes are higher than the same excavation elsewhere.
The usual rules still apply on top. More than five square metres of hard surfacing at the front needs a permeable material or drainage to a soft area inside your boundary, or planning permission. Every tree in a conservation area is protected regardless of whether an order exists, requiring six weeks written notice before even a heavy prune.
