Most Solihull kitchen enquiries are structural. What people want is a wall gone and a single large room at the back of the house, and the units are what happens afterwards.
On this stock that is usually rewarding work, because the houses are generous and the result is a genuinely large space rather than a marginally less cramped one. It also means longer spans and heavier beams than on a small terrace, and the beam has to be sized for what is actually bearing on it with the padstones and bearing checked rather than assumed. That is a Building Regulations matter and we arrange the inspection and see it signed off.
A great many of these projects also involve extending, because the plots allow it, which means the kitchen and the extension are one job rather than two. Where that is the case the drainage, the structure and the fit all need coordinating from the start rather than being handed between trades.
Floors are solid on most of the post-war stock, so moving a sink or a drain is a breaking out and chasing job rather than lifting a couple of boards. Better known before the units are ordered than after they arrive.
We do not sell kitchens. You buy the units wherever the deal is best and we take the room back to sound walls, level floors and services in the right places. Our kitchen work page covers where our part starts and where your supplier’s begins.
